The Maybelline Lip Gradation comes in a crayon form and the outer color is same as the lip crayon color inside. It has a black cap on the crayon end and a translucent black cap on the other end. The other end has a white sponge that needs to be used for blending out the lipstick and creating a gradient effect.
I got the Maybelline Lip Gradation Coral 1 shade. This shade is more of a pinky coral and I thought it would be perfect to wear during summer. It comes in 8 shades – ranging from red, to pink, to orange to mauve.
The Maybelline Lip Gradation is a creamy matte lipstick. It doesn’t have even the slightest tint of shine to it. The lipstick glides easily and doesn’t feel very dry. The lipsticks also feel very light, unlike other matte lipsticks which can feel heavy and uncomfortable to wear.
The pigmentation and color pay off of these lipsticks is excellent. You can see below how rich the color looks. They don’t appear very patchy and even when you use them as a lip tint or stain, their color is quite visible.
The Maybelline Lip Gradation Coral 1 lasts almost 10 hours for me. I applied it in the morning and then carried on the rest of the day with it, without any touch ups. The color does begin to fade if you eat something and as time passes, but it doesn’t vanish like a lot of other lipsticks do. With a touch up, you could have 100% color again.
Do we recommend?
Hell yes! For the price, the Maybelline Lip Gradation is a good buy. The color is rich and pigmented, it is long-lasting, the shades available are great – what more can you ask for! And it is one of the most comfortable drugstore matte lipsticks I have used. So yes I recommend you to buy this!
What we dislike
There was one thing which was a con – if your lips are dry then you need to have a lip balm underneath. This is the case for a lot of lipsticks so it’s not a deal breaker for me at all.
How to use?
The Maybelline Lip Gradation range is actually targeted as a way to get gradient lips – kind of like a light to dark color effect. Personally I’m not very fond of these kind of lips or any kind of ombre effect on my lips. But if you want to use the Maybelline Lip Gradation as it is supposed to be then follow these directions.
- Apply a lip balm to moisturize your lips
- Use the Maybelline Lip Gradation in the centre of your lips
- Use the sponge on the other end and start to diffuse the color in the centre by blending it outwards.
If like me you too are not a big fan of shaded lips, then just use it as a regular lipstick. But don’t forget to have lip balm underneath.
