Hey you! Hope you are having a superb day! Today I’m going to be talking about My Shaving Routine. I have been shaving for at least 5-6 years now. There was some time in between that I went back to waxing, but I realized that the pain and trouble is just not worth it. Firstly my hair takes about 2 months to grow fully. And if i try to wax before that, I end up having in grown hair. And waiting for 2 months to be able to wax with hair is quite irritating. So I moved back to shaving and decided to share my shaving routine with you guys. And busting the myth – my hair has not become any thicker than what it already was.
My Shaving Routine!
Exfoliating your skin is key if you want a good, smooth shave. I do this about 2-3 days before I’m actually supposed to shave so that any smaller hair can grow out. I use a body scrub for this step. Just take a good amount of scrub and rub over the part of the body that you want to shave. Don’t be too harsh. Just slowly go over it. Go in clockwise and anti clock wise directions. Remember to moisturize your skin after exfoliation.
Work up a lather
Right on the day when you are going to shave, jump in to the shower and let your body soak in some lukewarm water. this ensures the pores are open and let’s the hair come off easily. After my body is soaked well for about 5 minutes, I use the Gillette Satin Care shave gel and apply it all over the area that needs to be shaved. This works up a good amount of lather and also has aloe vera which is great for sensitive skin.
Let’s get a good shave
Now it’s time to get the razor. I use the Gillette Venus razor which has 3 blades that give a close and smooth shave. I usually start by shaving in the direction opposite to the hair growth and go over the skin once. The foam works as a good indicator to understand the areas that have already been shaved off. I try and keep a very light hand here so that there is no pressure that leads to cuts or abrasions.
Then I take some more shave foam and apply it once again on the area. And this time I go in the direction of the hair growth. And this is just so that every tiny hair that may not have come out earlier is off now.
After this I wash off the part with cold water.
Sealing the pores
Shaving also exfoliates the skin – so after that it’s important to close the pores. For this I take some aloe vera gel and apply it on the shaved part. The one I’m using right now is by Aroma Treasures. Also aloe vera gel can soothe your skin in case you have any kind of rash / redness caused in the process.
I usually let the gel sit on one arm and in the meantime move to the other arm. Even if you let the gel sit for 5 minutes, it’s good enough.
On the day of shaving I add some extra moisture to the skin so that it doesn’t feel itchy. For this I use some Parachute Coconut oil and just slather some on. And I let it be for about 5 minutes, before washing off everything with a shower gel and loofah, like I would on any other day.
Butter it up!
And once I’m out of the shower and wiped myself dry, I use a heavy duty body butter on the shaved area. Currently I’m using the Palmer’s Cocoa butter – this is excellent for dry skin and smells like heaven in a bottle!
I repeat this process whenever I feel the need for shaving.
So that is my shaving routine. I hope you guys enjoyed reading it. Let me know in the comments below in case you have any doubts or questions and I would be happy to help you.
